ILETSKAYA ZASHCHITA, a local mud resort in the Orenburg region, near a station of the same name on the Tashkent railway, 75 km from the city of Orenburg. The climate is continental. Summer is hot and dry. On the hottest days, the temperature reaches 34-35°. There are no more than 3-4 rainy days per month. In June, strong winds occur. The resort has several mud lakes and a large salt lake with a brine concentration of 23-24° Baumé. For mud baths, mud from Tuzluchnoye Lake is used. The mud bath facility with 35 baths dispenses up to 200 mud and 50 brine baths per day. Swimming in the salt lake is also available. At the mud bath facility, there is an outpatient clinic and a specially equipped department for gynecological procedures and mud tampons. Inpatients are accommodated in a hostel for 125 people, located 1 km from the town. Additionally, a new pavilion building with separate rooms for 2-3 people was constructed (1929) near the mud bath facility. Outpatients are accommodated in the town. Indications are the usual ones for mud resorts (see Mud Therapy), mainly diseases of the motor organs and female diseases. The season is from June 1 to September 1. The resort is currently under the jurisdiction of the Orenburg regional health department. Attendance: in 1923, 163 patients, and in 1928, up to 700 people per season. Iletsk is a district center; it has a post office, telegraph, and other state and public institutions.
