Encyclopedia entry (1928–1936)

ISAMIN BLUE B, 6 and R (Cassella), is a blue powdered dye that dissolves in water with a brilliant blue color. It is used for vital staining, for which a 1% solution of Isamin Blue in physiological saline is injected subcutaneously into rats and mice (1 cm3 per 20 g of body weight) 1-2 times a week until the skin turns blue. Sectioning is performed on a freezing microtome. The dye is deposited in polyblasts and reticuloendothelial cells.
