Historical document, translated for reference. It reflects medical knowledge of the 1920s–30s and is not medical advice.

Summary

This 1930s encyclopedia article defines keratoma as a horny growth or thickening of the skin's stratum corneum. It discusses how these horny hardening processes can form growths like cutaneous horns and notes its close clinical overlap with keratosis.

Encyclopedia entry (1928–1936)

KERATOMA, keratoma (literally "horny tumor"), skin changes expressed in a localized or diffuse massive thickening of the horny layer. Horny indurations can indeed form a kind of tumor (e.g., cutaneous horn). The terms "keratoma" and keratosis (see) are used by many dermatologists to designate the same clinical picture (for example, keratoma senile or keratosis senilis).
