Kholmogorov Semyon Semyonovich (1856-1925), prominent Russian obstetrician. After graduating from the medical faculty of Moscow University in 1880, Kholmogorov joined as an extern at the Moscow Maternity Institution and served there for almost forty years, rising through the ranks to become director of this institution. In his final years, Kholmogorov worked as a consultant in several Moscow institutions. His first scientific works were devoted to cirrhosis of the liver (including his dissertation: 'On the origin of chronic interstitial inflammation of the liver', Moscow, 1886). Subsequently, he developed the most diverse questions in obstetrics, in particular the question of expanding indications for cesarean section, narrow pelvis, artificially premature births, brow presentations, eclampsia, pubiotomy, and others. In total, he left 62 printed scientific works. Kholmogorov's teaching activities took place at Moscow University and at the Midwifery Institute.
