MONOMPHALUS (monomphalus), a type of double malformation where monozygotic twins, connected by various parts of the body, share a common umbilicus and a common umbilical cord, in contrast to the rarer form—diomphalus—where both the navels and the cords are separate; in diomphalus, the umbilical cords may sometimes be separated only partially. Monomphalus includes the majority of ischiopagi, xiphopagi, thoracopagi, and prosothoracopagi.
