RUBINSTEIN Dmitri Leonidovich (born 1893) physicochemist. In 1917 he graduated from the physics and mathematics faculty of Novorossiysk University, in 1922 he was elected privat-docent, and in 1926 professor of biology at the Odessa Medical Institute. From 1931 deputy director for scientific affairs at the Bach Biochemical Institute in Moscow. Rubinstein's works are devoted to questions of ecological hydrobiology, physiological antagonism of ions, theory of equilibrium solutions, research on electrical properties and permeability of the cell surface, biological effects of X-rays, etc. In these works, Rubinstein set himself the task of applying physicochemical methods to the resolution of biological problems. Rubinstein is the author of the books "Introduction to Physicochemical Biology" (M.-L., 1928) and "Physicochemical Foundations of Biology" (M.-L., 1932).
