SAVVIN Vitt Nikolaevich (1874-1933), surgeon and public health official. After graduating from the medical faculty of Moscow University, S. began working at the Institute of Operative Surgery of Moscow University (headed by Professor F. A. Rejn) and simultaneously at the former Yekaterininskaya Hospital. In 1908-09, S., already as a privat-docent, moved to the Novo-Yekaterininskaya Hospital as senior assistant in the surgical clinic (headed by Professor Martynov). From here in 1909, S. won a competition for the position of professor of operative surgery and topographic anatomy at Tomsk University, where he was soon elected dean, and then rector. In Tomsk, S. became an active initiator and leader of the higher women's courses.

In 1930, inspired by the idea of industrializing the country, S. interrupted his scientific and teaching activities and moved to Chelyabinsk to head the construction of a huge hospital complex on Chelyabstroi, enthusiastically devoting to this his severely depleted strength and health. Soon Savvin here began to unite all scientific

workers-physicians and became the leader of the local scientific association of physicians.
