BUTSNE, Viktor Romanovich (1845-1904), prominent Russian psychiatrist. After graduating in 1869 from Moscow University, he spent two years in Bonne, perfecting his knowledge of clinical psychiatry and pathological anatomy. In 1871, B. became an intern at the Preobrazhenskaya Hospital in Moscow and held various positions there; from 1887 he was appointed chief physician of this hospital. In 1893, B. was appointed director of the newly opened Alekseevskaya psychiatric hospital (now the Kashchenko Hospital). B. was one of the first Russian self-taught psychiatrists who combined theoretical knowledge acquired abroad with extensive practical experience from daily medical work. To B. belongs the credit for reorganizing the Preobrazhenskaya Hospital and reorganizing the Alekseevskaya Hospital on completely new principles, with the creation of a special hospital council for internal administration of the hospital, which includes all physicians of the hospital. a plan combining hospital treatment and care for the mentally ill with outpatient methods, while maintaining a close connection between institutions of both types. B. gradually organized all types of patronage system and created the city patronage in Moscow, the first in Russia.
