Summary

The dynamoscope is an apparatus for investigating the dynamic and motor aspects of human reactions. It consists of a reactive key with an attached rubber bulb and a two-mercury manometer with a writing pen, allowing measurement of reaction energy, path traveled, and time.

DYNAMOSCOPE by K. N. Kornilova, an apparatus for investigating the dynamic and motor aspects of human reactions. The components of the D. (see figure): a reactive key with a rubber bulb connected to it, and a two-mercury manometer equipped with a writing pen. When reacting, the subject presses the key; the force impulse is transmitted to the bulb and then through a tube to the manometer, whose pen records a specific curve on a kymograph strip. Knowing the speed of the kymograph and the radius of the manometer's opening, the energy expended during the reaction, the path traveled by the reacting organ, and the time of its movement can be easily calculated from the obtained curve.

The dynamoscope can be connected into a chronoscope circuit, and then the reaction time is measured simultaneously. Thus, the D. allows for the simultaneous consideration of both temporal and motor aspects of the reaction. The D. was manufactured in Germany by the firm Spindler & Hoyer.
