FAVORSKY Alexey Vasilyevich (1873-1930), professor of nervous diseases at Kazan University. After graduating in 1896 from the medical faculty, he worked in the Kazan nervous clinic under L. O. Darkshevich.

In 1901 he defended his dissertation ('Materials on the question of patho-anatomical changes in the spinal cord upon compression of it'), Kazan, 1901) for the degree of Doctor of Medicine.

From 1904 to 1906 he was on a foreign scientific mission, where he worked with Foxt (work on nerve endings in bulbus olfactorius) and with Metchnikoff (work on the action of botulinum toxin on lower vertebrates).

During this time F. established himself as a histopathologist of the nervous system.

In 1907 he received the position of privat-docent, in 1910 he again went on a foreign scientific mission and

worked with Alzheimer (work on the phenomena of decay in tabes dorsalis).

In 1918 he was elected to the chair of nervous diseases at Kazan

University, which he headed until his death. He was

chairman of the Society of Neuropathologists and Psychiatrists at Kazan

University, dean of the medical faculty (1917), and simultaneously headed the

chair of nervous diseases at the Kazan Institute for

advanced training of physicians.

F. has about 30 works devoted to questions of clinical

and histopathology of the nervous system, as well as some

social questions.
