MILANOL, Milanol, the basic bismuth salt of trichlorobutylmalonic acid [CCl3.C(CH3)2.O.OC.CH2COO]2BiOH; a white powder insoluble in water, soluble in chloroform and in fatty oils. It is used in ointments (2.5--10%) as an anti-pruritic agent for eczema; subcutaneously for syphilis as a suspension in ready-made ampoules containing 0.06 g of Bi per 1 cm3 or in an oil solution (0.02 Bi per 1 cm3). The action of Milanol is due to the presence of bismuth in it.
