Vladimir Vasilievich Nikolaev (born 1871) was a Russian experimental pharmacologist who served as a professor at Kazan University and later at Moscow University. He conducted research on vascular changes under the influence of medicinal substances, the physiology and pharmacology of the autonomic nervous system, and local and general anesthetics.

NIKOLAEV Vladimir Vasilievich (born in 1871), experimental pharmacologist. Graduated from the medical faculty of Kazan University in 1895. In 1902, N. defended his doctoral dissertation on "Photographing the fundus of the eye in animals" (Kazan, 1901); this work presents a new original method for fixing and analyzing changes in retinal vessels under the influence of medicinal substances, CO2 and others. From 1902, Nikolaev served as a privat-docent at the department of pharmacology. In 1903-04 and in 1906, he worked in Strasbourg at the institute of Schmiedeberg (O. Schmiedeberg), in 1905 - in Berlin at the institute of Thoms (H. Thoms). From 1904 to 1915, he headed the department of pharmacy and pharmacognosy at Kazan University, where he taught; from 1915 he served as professor at the same department; in addition, from 1916 to 1921, he taught at the department of pharmacology and prescription writing. In 1921, he was elected to the department of pharmacology at I Moscow State University, where he still serves at the present time. concern the physiology and pharmacology of the autonomic nervous system ("Zur Frage iiber die Innervation des Froschherzens", Arch. f. Anat. u. Physiol., Physiol. Abt., 1893, Supplementband), local and general anesthetics, iodoproteins ("Der Einfluss der Jodeiweissverbindungen auf die Pulsfrequenz", Arch. i. exp. Pathol., B. LIII, 1905) and others. - N. was a lecturer at the Kazan People's University and the Moscow Mass People's University. Nikolaev participated in the creation of the Kazan Women's Medical Institute (1915), the Kazan Scientific Pharmaceutical Society (1920), the Moscow Scientific Pharmaceutical Circle (now Association) (1922), a founding member of the Moscow Association of Physiologists, Biochemists, Pharmacologists and Histologists. N. took an active part in the compilation of the first Soviet pharmacopoeia of 1925 and served as editor of the "Pharmacy Herald". At the present time, he serves as editor of the pharmacological department of the BME and the Central Medical Journal.
