BELOGOLOVOVY, Nikolai Andreyevich (1834–95), a well-known practical physician in Siberia and later in St. Petersburg, where he grew close to the literary world and became the physician for the editorial board of Otechestvennye Zapiski. He treated Nekrasov, Saltykov-Shchedrin, and Turgenev. Belogolovovy wrote a biography of his friend S. P. Botkin and a talented book of memoirs about the Decembrists, who were his first teachers in Siberia, as well as about prominent contemporaries (Saltykov-Shchedrin, Nekrasov, Herzen, Tolstoy, and others).
