Encyclopedia article (1928–1936)
PHARMACY WAREHOUSE, serves for the storage of stocks of medicines and medical property and for the supply of such to pharmacies, sanitation and hygiene shops, and all medical-sanitary institutions. According to the scale of service, pharmacy warehouses in the USSR are: regional, krai, provincial, district, and county; pharmacy warehouses are an integral part of the corresponding pharmacy administrations (see). Pharmacy warehouses of central supply organizations differ only in their size and scale of work. A pharmacy warehouse consists of the following departments: 1. Alkaloids, poisonous and potent substances. 2. Dry chemical-pharmaceutical preparations. 3. Liquid chemical-pharmaceutical and galenical preparations. 4. Medicinal plants. 5. Dressing materials. 6. Glassware (storage of glassware, washing and drying it, supplying glassware to all departments of the warehouse). 7. Packaging (packaging of goods). 8. Expeditionary section (storage of packaged goods, issuance and shipment of it to the appropriate destination). 9. Economic (supply of warehouse departments with containers, packaging and sealing materials, stationery, household supplies, etc.). 10. Office and inventory. 11. Operational department (department for the release of goods). 12. Material accounting. - Odorous, flammable, and explosive substances must be stored separately. A pharmacy warehouse must have a dry basement with a concrete floor with the appropriate temperature and good ventilation. All fire safety rules must be observed at the pharmacy warehouse. The pharmacy warehouse must have an analytical laboratory in which all incoming medicines are checked. A medicine can be accepted by the warehouse only if it meets all the requirements of the pharmacopoeia. The acceptance of goods arriving at the pharmacy warehouse is carried out by an acceptance commission; a corresponding act is drawn up for each acceptance. Management of a pharmacy warehouse may be entrusted to a person with a higher pharmaceutical education and sufficient practical experience. The manager must be fully competent in matters of product quality, storage conditions, acceptance rules, etc. The manager must be able to understand product analyses in order to know how to proceed in cases where the quality of goods delivered to the pharmacy warehouse raises doubts. Management and service of the alkaloid and medication departments of the pharmacy warehouse may be entrusted only to pharmacists with sufficient experience. M. Khaimovich.
