POZZI Samuel (Samuel-Jean Pozzi, 1846-1918), outstanding French gynecologist. As a student and young doctor, P., under the influence of the famous Broca, became interested in anthropology, but soon devoted himself to the study of gynecology, which was then entering its brilliant period. As early as 1875, P. distinguished himself with his monograph on the excision of uterine fibroids («De la valeur de rhysterectomie dans le traitement des tumeurs fibreuses de 1'uterus», Paris, 1875).
receives the title of privat-docent Ir. -- 1
becomes a hospital surgeon, which was republished and translated into the main European languages and gives Pozzi world fame. Until the end of his life, P. did not cease medical work and was killed in his reception room by three bullets fired at him by a mentally ill patient.
