Summary
This 1930s encyclopedia article describes the band of myelinated fibers in the occipital cortex known as Vicq d'Azyr's stripe or Gennari's stripe. It details its anatomical position within the area striata and its composition of incoming visual fibers.
Encyclopedia entry (1928–1936)
VICQ D'AZYR'S STRIPE (Vicq d'Azyr), or Gennari's stripe, is a band of myelinated fibers located in the cortex of the occipital lobe of the brain, in the region of the fissura calcarina, which gives a layered appearance to this region of the cortex (area striata). Already to the naked eye, three layers can be distinguished in the cortex of the area striata: outer and inner grey layers, and between them a thin light layer—Vicq d'Azyr's stripe. It divides into two parts the 4th layer of the cortex—the internal granular layer; it is formed by the visual fibers entering it.
