VILLMANSTRAND (in Finnish Lappeenranta), a small town in Finland, on the southern shore of Lake Saimaa (altitude 148 m above sea level, population 2,600), climatic station, health resort, and summer residence. Picturesque area, healthy air, dry soil; the climate is mild and even. Lake bathing; in the hydrotherapy establishment--baths (freshwater, saline, steam, and mud-silt); extensive coniferous forests in the surroundings. Indications: anemia, nervous diseases, overwork. In addition, Villmanstrand is a health colony for convalescent children. The treatment season runs from June 15 to September 15. The sanatorium is open all year round.
