HUNGERBURG, a seaside resort in Estonia, 12 km north of the city of Narva, at the mouth of the Narva River. It is situated along the left bank of the river and along the southern coast of the Gulf of Finland for 21/2 km. From the land side, a coniferous forest approaches H. closely, protecting it from the winds. The soil is sandy, the beach is flat and fine-sanded, 20-85 m wide; the bottom is moderately sloping, even, and sandy. The climate is moderately humid. Temperature in May +10°, June +14.4°, July +17.4°, August +16.3°. Prevailing winds are from western directions. Number of clear days per month from 5 (in May) to two (in August). Sea water temperature in June +10.5°, July +14.4°, August +14°, maximum +18°. The surf is moderate. There is a hydrotherapy facility with physical methods of treatment, mud therapy is applied (mud from Arensburg). Sanitary condition is satisfactory (water supply). Indications: diseases of metabolism, women's diseases, nervous diseases, tuberculosis of lymph glands, and rickets in children. Season - May 15 to September 15, sea bathing from mid-June to the end of August.
