Encyclopedia entry (1928–1936)
Seaside resorts, a group of health resorts located on sea coasts, for which a common characteristic feature is the combined use of several therapeutic factors. Seaside resorts (especially in the south) serve as excellent climatic stations where specific treatment with marine climate is conducted (see Climate, Climatic Stations, Climatotherapy). At the same time, at seaside resorts, balneological treatment is carried out for several months a year in the form of sea bathing (see Sea bathing), sea baths (see Baths), mud therapy (see), and treatment with brine. To these factors is sometimes added systematic grape therapy (see). Thanks to these diverse features, seaside resorts are intensively visited by patients, develop extremely rapidly, and entire sea coasts are used for them (see also Resorts).
