WOSSIDLO, Hans (Hans Wossidlo, 1854-1918), a noted German venereologist. After graduating from the medical faculty in 1879 and brief practical activity, he studied urology under the guidance of Kollmann and Oberlander. W.--author of a number of major works: "Strictures of the Urethra and Their Treatment" ("Harnröhrenstricturen und ihre Behandlung"), "On the Examination of the Anterior and Posterior Parts of the Urethra" ("Zur Untersuchung der Vor-der- und Hinterharnröhre"), the textbook "Gonorrhea in Men" ("Die Gonorrhoe des Mannes"), which went through several editions (the last was published in 1923, after W.'s death). In addition, W. published a number of studies on diseases of the bladder, tuberculosis of the kidneys, hypertrophy of the prostate, on the Bottini operation, sterilization of cystoscopes, etc. Shortly before his death, in 1917, the first part of his joint work with Felker appeared--"The Doctrine of Surgical Urology" ("Urologische Operationslehre").
