Fehling Hermann (Feliling Hermann, 1847-1925), a prominent German gynecologist; received his medical education in Tübingen and Leipzig, specializing under Credé. In 1877 he was appointed director of the Midwifery School in Stuttgart, in 1887 became a professor in Basel, in 1894 in Halle, and in 1901 in Strasbourg. In his later years he lived in Baden-Baden, working on the history of gynecology ('Development of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the 19th Century', Berlin, 1925). Among F.'s numerous works (III), the republished 'Physiology and Pathology of the Puerperium' (Stuttgart, 1890; Russian edition - 'Physiology and Pathology of the Puerperium', St. Petersburg, 1890), his excellent lectures on operative obstetrics (Russian edition - St. Petersburg, 1911), and the jointly authored with Franz 'Textbook of Women's Diseases' (Stuttgart, 1893; 4th ed., 1913; Russian edition - St. Petersburg, 1914) should be noted. From his journal articles, works on the puerperium, self-infection, osteomalacia, nephritis of pregnancy, cesarean section, physiology of amniotic fluid, and others should be mentioned.
