FRANZ Karl (Karl Franz, 1870-1926), one of the most brilliant German gynecological surgeons of the early 20th century. He received his medical education in Würzburg and specialized in gynecology under Feling and Bumm. In 1904 he received a professorship in Jena, and in 1910 in Berlin (Charité). Among his numerous works, those of a clinical character are of greatest interest, where he describes innovations and details of his outstanding surgical technique. All of this is summarized in his textbook on women's diseases, written together with Feling (Russian trans., St. Petersburg, 1914), and especially in his last work, written and published during his fatal illness—"Gynecological Operations" (Berlin, 1925). 1 Lit.: Bracht E., Karl Franz, Arch. f.
