SCHROEDER Karl (Karl Schroeder; 1838-1887), famous German obstetrician and gynecologist of the second half of the 19th century, one of the founders of modern (operative) gynecology. Received his medical education in Rostock and Würzburg. In 1868 he received a professorship in Würzburg and quickly rose to the forefront of German gynecologists of that time. In 1876 he moved to Berlin, where he created a new obstetric-gynecological clinic and developed extensive scientific-practical activity with a surgical orientation based on the principles of antisepsis. A brilliant teacher, S. wrote classic textbooks on obstetrics and gynecology, which were used by doctors from almost all countries for half a century. In Russian, S.'s "Textbook of Obstetrics" was reprinted 8 times (6 editions by Rikker, St. Petersburg, 1st in 1872, 6th in 1908, and 2 editions of "Practical Medicine", St. Petersburg, 1889 and 1896), "Diseases of the Female Sexual Organs" - 5 times (5th edition - St. Petersburg, 1900).
SCHROEDER Robert (Robert Schroeder; born in 1884), prominent contemporary German gynecologist. Received his medical education and specialized in Rostock. Since 1922 - professor in Kiel. S. is known for his classic works on the physiology and pathology of the ovarian-menstrual cycle, which to a large extent form the basis of the modern doctrine of this major branch of female physiology and pathology - "Der meHsuelle Genitalzyklus des Weibes und seine Storungen" (Handbuch der Gynakologie, hrsg. von Veit u. Stoeckel, B. I, Teil 2, 1928). S. wrote an original textbook of gynecology ("Lehrbuch der Gynakologie", Leipzig, 1922; 2nd ed. - 1926), translated into Russian (M.-L., 1930).
