TORE (lya) Felix (Felice La Torre, 1846-1923), an outstanding Italian gynecologist. After completing his medical education in Naples, T. served as a military physician for 13 years. Then he spent 6 years in Paris, studying gynecology and obstetrics. During these years, he published two major monographs on fetal development in women with a narrow pelvis and on the influence of the father on fetal development ("Du developpement du foetus chez les femmes a bassin vicie", Paris, 1887; "Des conditions qui favorisent ou entravent le developpement du foetus.-Influence du pere", Paris, 1888). In 1889, Torre returned to Rome and began teaching at the Roman university. T. left many scientific works; he wrote a three-volume textbook on obstetrics ("Elementi di Ostetricia", Torino, 1895-1899); he founded and edited the journal "La clinica ostetrica" (Rome, from 1899). T. was an honorary member of the Moscow Obstetric-Gynecological Society from 1898.
