Galli-Valerio

GALLI-VALERIO, Bruno (Bruno Galli-Valerio, born in 1867), is a professor and director of the Institute of Experimental Hygiene and Parasitology at the University of Lausanne and is one of the founders of modern parasitology. G.-V. is the author of numerous works in various branches of parasitology—helminthology, entomology, protozoology, bacteriology (more than 150 scientific works). He discovered pyroplasmosis (see) in dogs in 1895 (together with Piana), in 1911—in the hedgehog Erinaceus algirus, and in 1914—in the mole Talpa europea. In 1925, he published a work on the treatment of leprosy with intravenous injections of 0.1% chaulmoogra oil (see Leprosy). One of the works of G.-V., together with Rochaz (J. Rochaz), was translated into Russian and received wide circulation. This is 'The Fight Against Mosquitoes and Malaria' (Saratov, 1913). Most of G.-V.'s works were published in Centralblatt f. Bakteriologie, 1 Abt., Originale from 1900 to the recent years.
