GLAVCHE, Yegor Stepanovich (1871 - 1919), physician and public health activist, founder of the first in Odessa therapeutic and prophylactic polyclinic for free treatment of skin and venereal diseases. G. graduated in 1895 from the medical faculty of Moscow University, was an intern under A. V. Pospelov. In 1903 he worked at the clinic of Jadassohn in Bern, where he began work partially published in 1916: "Lymphatic glands and syphilis" (part 1, Odessa, 1916). Of G's later works, the greatest importance are those devoted to the Wassermann reaction and salvarsan treatment. All of G's medical activities were deeply permeated with social-hygienic ideas and placed him among the first venereologists-activists who sought the practical implementation of broad preventive measures to combat syphilis and venereal diseases. Being secretary of the Odessa Dermatological Society, G. in 1911 organized public lectures on venereal diseases and prostitution. The dermatovenereological polyclinic created through his efforts in 1917 was reorganized by the People's Commissariat of Health of the Ukrainian SSR in 1922 into the State Dermatovenereological Institute, which bears the name of E. S. Glavche.
