Gruzdev, Viktorin Sergeevich (born in 1866), one of the most prominent contemporary Russian gynecologists, professor of obstetrics and gynecological diseases at Kazan University. Graduated from the Military Medical Academy in 1891 and by competitive examination was retained among the physicians of the so-called "Professor's Institute." In 1897 he became a privat-docent, in 1900 - a professor in Kazan (holding this position to the present day). Gruzdev's scientific activity began during his student years (two works were awarded prizes). Gruzdev has more than 80 printed works, many of which are known abroad. Gruzdev's most outstanding works: "Sarcomas of the Ovaries" (dissertation, St. Petersburg, 1894), a classical work on the development and morphology of uterine muscle (jointly with Vert), on the physiology of the female sexual sphere, a series of works on cancer of the uterus and generally malignant neoplasms. Special mention should be made of his widely popular guides on gynecology and obstetrics. Gruzdev is also an expert in the history of obstetrics and has devoted a series of essays to this subject. Gruzdev actively participates in scientific periodical literature and in public life, serving as editor of many scientific publications and journals, in particular the "Kazan Medical Journal," which has acquired all-Union significance from an organ of local importance.

Gruzdev is a member and honorary member of many scientific societies, an active organizer of congresses and their honorary chairman.
