Henoch, Eduard (Eduard Henoch, 1820-1910), famous physician, founder of pediatrics as an independent medical discipline in Germany. He received his medical education in Berlin. H. began his scientific activity as an assistant in the clinic of Professor Romberg, and received the title of professor in 1858. Two years after this, he opened a polyclinic for childhood diseases at his own expense. In 1872, H. was appointed director of the children's disease clinic at Charite (he retired in 1894). H. presented his observations and the fruits of his rich experience in "Beitrage zur Kin-derheilkunde" (B., 1861); "Vorlesungen uber Kinderkrankheiten" (B., 1881; 11th edition appeared in 1913).-H. is one of the outstanding physicians of the old type, guided exclusively by his own medical talent and experience. H. drew his knowledge directly from life and what he saw, he presented in numerous works, which (like his lectures) were very popular and formed the foundation of the brilliant modern German pediatric school.
