Karuzin Peter Ivanovich (born in 1864), professor of normal anatomy at 1st Moscow State University, prominent anatomist, one of the first Russian researchers in the field of studying the conducting pathways of the central nervous system. After graduating in 1888 from the medical faculty of Moscow University, K. in 1889 took the position of assistant prosector at the department of normal anatomy of Moscow University. In 1894 he defended his dissertation on the topic: "On the systems of fibers of the spinal cord, distinguished on the basis of their developmental history." In 1900 K. was elected professor at the department of normal anatomy of Moscow University. At the same time he worked and works in a number of other higher educational institutions in Moscow. At the initiative and with the closest participation of K., the new Anatomical Institute of 1st Moscow State University was built and opened (1928); with the assistance of K., anatomical departments were organized in a number of other universities (Tiflis, Astrakhan, Smolensk, Minsk). K. participates in the work on the reform of higher education institutions, methodological and planning commissions. He is a member of the scientific-methodological commission of the VSFK. In 1924 he took part in the embalming of the body of V. I. Lenin. K. edited a number of anatomical guides; many scientific works belong to his pen, of which the most valuable are: the dissertation (see above); "Notes on the modern teaching of anatomy in German universities" (M., 1900); "Guide to plastic anatomy" (M., 1921); "Dictionary of anatomical terms" (M.-L., 1928).
