Muratov Vladimir Aleksandrovich (1865-1916), a prominent neuropathologist. He graduated from the medical faculty of Moscow University in 1889, completed his internship in the clinic of A. Ya. Kozhevnikov, and subsequently served as prosector at the Bakhrushin, Preobrazhenskaya, and Vladimirskaya hospitals and simultaneously (from 1894) as a privat-docent at Moscow University. From 1906 he was director of the Tambov psychiatric hospital, then of the Saratov psychiatric hospital; from 1910 he was a professor at Tomsk University, and from 1911 to 1916 he was a professor at Moscow University. According to his political beliefs, M. belonged to the reactionary press. Of his numerous (approximately 100) works by Muratov, the following deserve special attention: "Secondary degenerations in focal lesions of the motor sphere of the cerebral cortex" (dissertation, Moscow, 1893); "Clinical lectures on nervous diseases of childhood" (Moscow, 1898); "Guide to the study of diseases of the nervous system" (Moscow, 1916). Of further interest are: his theory of the origin of involuntary movements, the occurrence of which Muratov associated with lesions of the brachia conjunctiva system (nucl. dentatus -> nucl. ruber) ("New data on the pathology of involuntary movements in focal brain diseases", Medical Review, vol. IX, 1903), the subcallosus fasciculus (fasciculus subcallosus) identified by M., the doctrine of para-infectious origin of encephalitis, and his original concept of the pathophysiology of epileptic seizures.
