Peter Miihlens (born 1874) was a professor of tropical medicine. He authored numerous works on tropical medicine, malaria, spirochetoses (especially syphilis), trypanosomiasis, and amoebic dysentery. He introduced emetine into therapy for treating amoebic dysentery.

MIIHLENS Peter (born 1874), professor of tropical medicine. He graduated from the medical faculty in Bonn, presenting a dissertation on the topic "Beiträge zur Osteomyelitis mit besonderer Berücksichtigung der Therapie". He served in the navy; from 1925 he was a professor at the University of Hamburg, heading the clinical department of the Hamburg Tropical Institute. He is the author of numerous works on various branches of tropical medicine, on malaria, spirochetoses, chiefly syphilis, trypanosomiasis, and amoebic dysentery. He introduced emetine into therapy for the treatment of amoebic dysentery. In the years 1921–22 he participated in the organization of the German Red Cross for aid to famine-stricken areas of the USSR and published a report on his work. Miihlens's major works include "Die Plasmodiden"; a chapter in "Handbuch der pathogenen Protozoen", edited by S. Prowazek and W. Noller, Vol. III, Leipzig, 1921; also a separate edition; "Krankheiten und Hygiene der warmen Länder" (together with R. Ruge and M. zur Verth, 3rd edition, Leipzig, 1930).
