PASHEN Enrique (Enrique Paschen), born in 1860 in Mexico. He works in Germany, where from 1916 to 1930 he served as director of the Hamburg State Smallpox Institute. Since the founding of the University of Hamburg (1919), he has been a privat-docent in smallpox vaccination. The author of numerous works on smallpox and smallpox vaccination. He repeatedly participated in the fight against smallpox in Germany, as well as in other countries and in colonies (Togo). For outstanding services in the study and elimination of smallpox epidemics, the Hamburg Senate honored him in 1913 with the title of professor.

Pashen's most important works on the etiology of smallpox: the so-called "Pashen elementary bodies" discovered by him in 1906 (see Smallpox) have been recognized by many leading specialists as the cause of smallpox vaccine. Pashen authored numerous summaries on smallpox and smallpox vaccination in the largest collective guides published in Germany in the 2nd and 3rd decades of the 20th century: "Uber den Erreger der Variola-Vaccine" (Handbook of the Technique and Methodology of Immunological Research, ed. by R.
