Simeiz, a seaside climatic station on the southern coast of Crimea, 22 km west of Yalta, 72 km from Sevastopol, and 5 km from Alupka, at 44°24' N latitude and 34°2' E longitude. Simeiz is located on the eastern side of Mount Koshka, along the Black Sea coast in a very picturesque area. The resort is situated on mountain slopes with terrace-like streets gradually rising upward. Simeiz, having a convex relief and surrounded on three sides by spurs of the Yaila Mountains, is situated on a gradual, even slope facing south, ranging from 100 to 30 m above sea level. The soil of Simeiz is calcareous (scree of limestone rocks), porous, and dry, which does not retain moisture and acts as a natural drainage system. The main mass of clay shale is covered with thin layers of limestone, and above them, the aforementioned marly limestone. The climate of Simeiz is maritime, of moderate humidity, especially in spring and summer, and is distinguished by its mildness, uniformity, and low cloudiness. In winter, there is quite a lot of precipitation. The average annual air temperature is 13.2°, relative humidity is 68.4%; the amount of precipitation is 560 mm per year, and the number of days with precipitation is 85 per year. The proximity of the Yaila mountain spurs and Mount Koshka on the western border of Simeiz, as well as the large amount of solar radiation, raise the average temperature by 1° compared to Yalta and influence the deviation of other meteorological elements compared to the latter. The therapeutic means of Simeiz are: climate, sun and sea baths, sanatorium regimen, physical culture, and physical methods. Sea bathing is from May 15 to September 30, and under favorable conditions, from the end of April to the end of October. Grape season is from August 15 to October 1. Simeiz is a self-contained resort town. Sanatoriums and rest homes have been established in former count and princely estates, as well as in villas and dachas. In the center of the resort is a large, shady park with diverse plants and flower beds: magnolias, palms, cypresses, firs, laurels, etc. In the park, there is an open-air stage (kur-saal) and playgrounds. The resort polyclinic has an outpatient clinic, an electrical treatment room, an X-ray room, a bathhouse, a hydrotherapy facility, a laboratory, a therapeutic beach, and a room for recording the results of resort treatment. The resort functions year-round. Indicated for Simeiz are: pulmonary tuberculosis during the cold and non-hot months, tuberculosis of the bones, joints, glands, and skin; effusive pleurisy and peritonitis; non-tuberculous diseases of the respiratory tract; parenchymatous nephritis; rickets and exudative diathesis in children. Communication with Yalta, Sevastopol, and other resort areas of the southern coast of Crimea is by highway via automobiles and carriages, and by sea via steamships, motorboats, and motor launches.
