Bubnov, Sergei Fedorovich, professor of hygiene at 1st Moscow State University (1851-1909). B. was a student of the famous German hygienist Pettenkofer, under whose guidance and that of Professor Emmerich at the Munich Hygiene Institute he worked extensively. The result of these studies was B.'s experimental work "Zur Frage vom Verhalten gefarbter Zeuge zum Wasser und zur Luft". From 1892 to 1895, B. served, at the invitation of F.F. Erisman, as an assistant in the department of hygiene at Moscow University. In 1895, he was appointed professor at the University of Yuryev to the chair of State Medical Administration, and in 1896, after Professor Erisman was forced to go abroad, he was transferred from Yuryev to Moscow, where he held the chair of hygiene at the university until his death. Bubnov authored more than 40 scientific works in various fields of experimental hygiene (some of them published in German and French). His most substantial work is his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Medicine - "On the rational arrangement of heating and ventilation", which to the present day represents significant interest for both hygienists and construction engineers. B.'s work "Zur Beleuchtungsfrage. Photometrische Tageslichtmessungen in Wohnraumen" is interesting in conception and well-executed. An extensive and substantial work is B.'s book "American mechanical filters", in which the results of testing these filters in Moscow are scientifically presented. B.'s works on soil, on the coloring of fabrics, wallpapers, etc. also have significant scientific and practical interest. In addition to his scientific and teaching activities at the university, B. also participated in the public life of Moscow. He served as head of the City Sanitation Station, chairman of the Commission for the investigation of Moscow's water supply, a member of the City Medical Council, and various commissions on sanitary issues.
