DESHIN, Alexander Alexandrovich (born in 1869), professor of descriptive anatomy at 2nd Moscow State University (former Moscow Higher Women's Courses). After graduating in 1893 from the medical faculty of Moscow University, he worked at the department of operative surgery as an assistant prosector; in 1902, after defending his dissertation on the topic "Anatomy of the umbilical region in relation to the development of so-called umbilical hernias" (dissertation, Moscow, 1902), he was elected prosector at Novorossiysk University in the department of operative surgery and approved as privat-docent at the same department. Being a major anatomist, D. adheres to the biological-physiological direction, which found reflection in a number of works. He participated in public and journalistic work, in particular he served as secretary of the "Surgery" journal published by P. P. Dyakonov. At present, he is a member of many scientific societies and editor of a number of specialized journals ("Russian Anthropological Journal", "Central Medical Journal") and co-editor of the surgical department of the Great Medical Encyclopedia. To D. belongs a number of valuable works in the field of normal anatomy.
