Kolosov Alexander Alexandrovich (born in 1862), known histologist, professor of the North Caucasus University in Rostov-on-Don. In 1886, upon graduating from the medical faculty of Kharkov University, K. worked at the department of histology; in 1889, at the invitation of Babukhin, he moved to Moscow University, where he was assistant and prosector. In 1895, he received a chair in Warsaw; from 1915 K. was professor in Rostov. A distinctive feature of K. as a histologist is his masterful technique, which he enriched with the method of osmication, suitable for clarifying the finest cellular structures; he also designed one of the best types of paraffin bath. The scientific works of K. relate to the field of cytology of epithelium and muscles; the most important of them: "Uber die Struktur des Pleuroperitoneal- und Gefassepithels (Endothels)" (Archiv für mikroskopische Anatomie, Band LXII, 1893; dissertation); "On the relationships of cells and of juice canals in covering and glandular epithelia and in smooth muscle tissue" (Russian Archive of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, Vol. IV, Issue 1, 1925).
