Mirovtsov Sergei Romanovich (born in 1878), known surgeon. After graduating from the medical faculty of Kharkov University in 1903, he received surgical training under A. A. Troyanov, S. P. Fedorov, and V. A. Oppel, successively holding positions as orderly, assistant, and privat-docent. In 1914 he received the chair of general surgery in Saratov; in 1920 he moved to the chair of faculty surgery at the same university, in which position he serves to the present time. As a field surgeon, he worked in the besieged Port Arthur in 1904, on the Caucasian and western fronts during the world war. From 1922 to 1928 he served as rector of Saratov University. He was repeatedly elected chairman of the Saratov Surgical Society. He serves as chairman of the Lower Volga regional scientific association of physicians, editor of local journals, and co-editor of the "Journal of Contemporary Surgery." M. has about 50 printed works, of which the principal are: "Experimental data on the question of ureterointestinal anastomosis" (dissertation, St. Petersburg, 1909); "On the doctrine of collateral circulation" (Works of the propaedeutic surgical clinic of V. Oppel, book 4, St. Petersburg, 1912); "Sarcomas of tubular bones" (Doctor's Newspaper, 1914, № 2); "On the pathology and clinic of intestinal sarcoma" (together with N. Zakharov, Scientific Notes of Saratov University, vol. I, pp. 1-20, 1923); further, a series of works on methods of urinary diversion into the intestine and their long-term results (1910), on syphilis of the kidney (1927), on malignant neoplasms of the cranial vault (1930). The method of ureterointestinal anastomosis developed by M. bears the name of its author.
