N. in a 1% aqueous solution is completely isotonic with blood serum and is used as a physiological solution alongside Ringer's solution; N. has an advantage over the official physiological solution (0.85% solution of NaCl) due to its ionic composition being closer to that of blood. N. is indicated for joint rheumatism, urticaria, dermatitis, to enhance diuresis, and to reduce pain in local neuralgias (locally 3-10 cm3). Dosed as a physiological solution.
