Apostoli Condenser Bed
Historical document, translated for reference. It reflects medical knowledge of the 1920s–30s and is not medical advice.
Summary
The Apostoli condenser bed is a wooden couch covered with an ebonite sheet and a metal sheet, used for high-frequency current therapy. The patient acts as one plate of a capacitor, with the metal sheet serving as the other, allowing for the application of high-frequency currents.

APOSTOLI CONDENSER BED, a wooden couch covered with an ebonite sheet over its entire upper surface. Over this sheet, the entire surface of the couch is lined with a metal sheet (sometimes the latter sheet is placed on the lower surface of the couch); a light quilted leather or felt mattress is placed on this sheet. The metal sheet is connected to one of the poles of the primary circuit of the high-frequency apparatus.

d'Arsonval; the second pole of this circuit is either given in the form of a cylindrical electrode in the hands of the patient lying on the couch, or applied in the form of a plate to his exposed chest, abdomen (Schittenhelm's bed). In the latter method, overheating by the passing current does not occur.

of the wrist joints, developing upon holding a cylindrical electrode. Thus, the couch with the patient represents a capacitor, one plate of which is the patient, and the second is the metal flooring of the bed; the patient is subjected to the action of high-frequency current, being, in fact, a part of the capacitor, which is charged and discharged by high voltage, with the high frequency of oscillations of the current of the primary circuit of the apparatus.
