Gorokhov, Dmitrii Egorovich (1863-1921), prominent public health physician. After graduating from the medical faculty of Moscow University in 1886, he worked as a zemsky doctor in Smolensk Province. From 1890 he headed the Dmitrov zemsky hospital in Moscow Province, and then worked as senior physician at the Smolensk provincial hospital. In 1900 he moved to Moscow, where as a privat-docent at Moscow University he took the chair of obstetrics and women's diseases, and later of clinical surgery. He wrote extensively on medical and social issues (over 200 titles); the principal works of G.: "Pediatric Surgery" (vols. 1-3, Moscow, 1910-16) - the first attempt in Russian medical literature to isolate the clinic of surgery of childhood as a separate branch of knowledge; "Tuberculosis of bones and joints in children" ("Practical Physician", 1906, nos. 39-40); "The social significance, causes of child mortality and the struggle against it" (Moscow, 1912) and others.
