LURIYA Roman Albertovich (born 1874), prominent therapist. Graduated from the medical faculty of Kazan University in 1897. For a number of years, he headed the therapeutic department of the Kazan Provincial zemstvo hospital. In 1902, he published the dissertation "On the role of the sensory nerves of the diaphragm in the innervation of respiration" (Kazan). He studied internal diseases, and in German clinics - specifically diseases of the digestive system. He has over 60 works on various issues in the clinic of internal diseases, especially of the digestive system. Among them - a series of studies on chronoscopy of the stomach, treatment of diarrhea and dysentery; a number of works are devoted to the clinic of malaria and syphilis of internal organs. the monograph "Edematous Disease" (Kazan, 1922). In addition, from Luria's works, separate editions were published: "Syphilis and the Stomach" (Moscow, 1928; translated into German); "The Old and New in the Doctrine of Chronic Gastritis" (M., 1929); "On Syphilitic Diseases of Internal Organs" (Kazan, 1930). From L's clinic, about 100 works of his students were published. In 1920, L. organized the Lenin Institute for Advanced Medical Studies in Kazan and has been the permanent director of this institute and the clinic of internal diseases at it. Thanks to L's energy, this institute has developed into the largest scientific research and scientific pedagogical institution in the East.
