AFFECTION, a term sometimes used to denote a particular local lesion. Examples: affection of the bicuspid valve - lesion of the bicuspid heart valve, affection of the lung apex - tuberculous lesion of the lung apex, etc. In addition, in Aschoff's theory of inflammation, the term "affection" is used to denote the first phase of the inflammatory process, which consists in tissue damage by the factor causing the inflammation.
