PLAQUES, in medical terminology, designate morphological formations that are quite varied in essence, having more or less clearly expressed outlines. Thus, one speaks of Bizzozero's plates, Peyer's patches of the intestine, arteriosclerotic plaques, plaques in disseminated sclerosis of the brain, etc. The French synonym of the same word (plaques) is also frequently used (p. opalines, jaunes, etc.).
