PSEUDOARRHENIA (from the Greek pseudes—false and arrhen—male), a term proposed by Benda to designate cases of false female hermaphroditism, specifically when, in the presence of female gonads, there is significant development of the clitoris, resembling a penis, and of the scrotum, which is sometimes more or less cleft. Some cases of pseudoarrhenia are combined with congenital tumors (adenomas) of the adrenal cortex.
